What is Act on Exploitation?
What is Act on Exploitation?
Exploitation of children and young people happens everywhere. Too often, it goes undetected. Your staff may not be able to spot the signs or aren't aware of how to take safe action.
Children suffer most, but criminal exploitation harms businesses too, and it might be costing yours - financially and reputationally. It has been estimated that more than 1 in 24 children and young people in England* are at risk of exploitation and other serious violence due to poverty and local crime.
By providing your staff with our expert training you will be showing your commitment to children and young people from your local communities, and across the UK.
*Aged 11 to 17. Estimate by Crest (2021) using 2019 Index of Deprivation.

Tailored to your sector

Leisure and hospitality
We know that antisocial behaviour can be disruptive to staff and other customers. But often it’s child exploitation that needs disrupting. Train your team to spot the signs of child exploitation – and create a safer environment for all your customers.

Retail
Retail theft is rising year on year and thefts from shops by organised criminal groups are a national concern for retailers. Our certified training, will support teams to be able to discern when a young person has been exploited or coerced into shoplifting.

Banking and finance
Not everyone thinks of children when they hear the words ‘financial fraud.’ Train your team to spot the signs of child financial exploitation and safeguard the next generation.

Travel and transport
Exploitation is a crime the police describe as ‘hidden in plain sight’. The young people we’re most concerned about are seen every day. A team that’s trained to identify these scenarios will be better prepared to protect children, themselves, and customers.

The Children's Society Retail
Valerie, a volunteer at one of The Children’s Society’s retail shops, recently completed Act on Exploitation alongside all our retail staff and volunteers.
“The training was incredibly informative and has prompted me to reconsider how I perceive certain situations and how I would respond to them in the future.”
It has empowered Valerie to approach her interactions with young people at work and in her daily life with a renewed perspective.
